Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has become the most expensive Bangladeshi cricketer in Indian Premier League (IPL) history after being sold for ₹92 million at the latest auction. At the current exchange rate, the amount is equivalent to approximately BDT 125 million.
Mustafizur had already held the record as the costliest Bangladeshi player in the IPL when Delhi Capitals signed him for ₹60 million in a previous season. During that campaign, he featured in three matches, claiming four wickets at an economy rate of 7.91.
There was strong interest in “The Fizz” once again at this year’s auction. The left-arm pacer has previously represented five different IPL franchises.
The 30-year-old had a base price of ₹20 million. Chennai Super Kings opened the bidding, before Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders entered the contest, pushing the price up rapidly.
Eventually, Kolkata Knight Riders emerged as the winning bidder, clearly signalling their intent to strengthen their pace attack ahead of the new season.
Mustafizur made his IPL debut in 2016 with Sunrisers Hyderabad and won the title in his very first season. He picked up 17 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.90 that year and was also named the Emerging Player of the Tournament.
