Hon’ble Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jasim Al Thani at his office in Doha on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Qatari Prime Minister expressed his full support for the leadership of the Bangladesh Chief Adviser and he assured him all possible support to rebuild the country.
The Qatari Prime Minister, one of the most influential leaders in the Middle East, was very forthcoming in welcoming the high-level Bangladesh delegation to Qatar. With a positive gesture, he expressed eagerness to review and revamp the bilateral engagement between the two countries in all sectors. In this context, he proposed to form a joint technical committee to expedite the pending as well as new and emerging bilateral issues and designated one of his close aides to take forward the bilateral collaboration to a new height. The Qatari leader also urged the Bangladesh side to send a technical team to Qatar to hold discussions on a range of bilateral issues.
During the meeting, Qatari Prime Minister expressed his full confidence in Professor Yunus hoping that Bangladesh would be able to come out of the challenges with the reform initiatives and rebuilding processes undertaken by his government.
Bangladesh Chief Adviser thanked the Qatari Prime Minister and sought full diplomatic, financial and investment support in his government’s efforts to rebuilding the New Bangladesh and meeting challenges in creating employment for the youth population and a prosperous future for the country’s nearly 180 million people. While thanking for hosting around 04 lac Bangladeshi workers, he urged the Qatari side to recruit more workers and professionals from Bangladesh. The Qatari Prime Minister was appreciative of the roles of Bangladeshi workers for their hard work and sincerity.
The discussion also centered on the Rohingya crisis, with the Chief Adviser calling for all possible support “to make sure Rohingya people can return home with dignity.”
The Chief Adviser also thanked the Qatari Prime Minister for extending support to organise a high-level dialogue on the Rohingya crisis on the sidelines of the Earthna Summit.
The Qatari Prime Minister appreciated Bangladesh’s role in hosting more than a one million Rohingya refugees in the country. He called for mobilizing more international support to resolve the crisis.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the evolving humanitarian situations in Gaza. Professor Yunus expressed his regret that much of the world is still silent over the plight of the Gazans.
The Bangladesh Chief Adviser also thanked Al Jazeera, which he visited yesterday, for covering the Gaza crisis despite enormous challenges. He invited the Qatari Prime Minister to undertake a visit to Dhaka at a convenient time which the Qatari Prime Minister gladly accepted.
During the meeting, Honble Foreign Adviser Mr. Md. Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Mr. M Fouzul Kabir Khan, National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Principal Coordinator (Senior Secretary), SDGs Affairs Ms. Lamiya Morshed and Press Secretary accompanied the Hon’ble Chief Advisor.
