Middle East Tensions Push Global Oil Prices Above $100 a Barrel

September 10, 2026 :Crude oil prices remained above $100 a barrel in global markets on Thursday amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, as attacks on commercial vessels and concerns over disruptions to fuel supplies heightened fears of a major oil supply crisis.

The latest shipping attacks have raised concerns among traders over the availability of crude oil amid the six-month-long conflict between Iran and the United States.

On Thursday, September 10, the international benchmark Brent crude price rose 0.1% to $101.34 a barrel. At the same time, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained 0.5% to trade at $96.55 a barrel.

As fuel supplies from the Middle East decline, global oil inventories are coming under increasing pressure. Against this backdrop, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) has raised its forecasts for oil prices this year and next year.

According to the EIA, the average price of Brent crude in international markets is expected to reach around $91 a barrel this year. The estimate is about 5% higher than its previous forecast.

The agency also expects the average price of US WTI crude to reach $84.65 a barrel this year, also around 5% above its previous projection.

However, the EIA finalized these forecasts on September 3, before the latest escalation in tensions in the Middle East. As a result, further changes to its oil price outlook may be necessary depending on how the situation develops.
