A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Mexico on Tuesday, sending tremors across parts of the country. Authorities said there were no immediate reports of fatalities or significant damage, while officials continued to monitor the situation and assess its impact.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s epicentre was located about 75 kilometres south-southwest of El Progreso. The quake struck at 1:45 p.m. local time in the Gulf of California region and originated at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres.
Seismologists note that shallow earthquakes are generally felt over a wider area because of their relatively limited depth. Despite the strong shaking, authorities have not reported any major structural damage or casualties so far.
Emergency management agencies are continuing to assess the affected areas and remain on alert for any developments.
The earthquake comes amid a period of heightened seismic activity in several parts of the world.
