Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has decided to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his diplomatic efforts toward peace in Gaza and Cambodia.
Ahead of a bilateral meeting scheduled for Monday, the Japanese government announced that Prime Minister Takaichi is preparing to formally submit Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. According to government sources, Tokyo has also begun the process of informing Washington about this initiative.
Local media reports, citing official sources, say Takaichi believes that Trump’s mediation in the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand and his role in de-escalating the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas were both “historic” and “unprecedented.”
Prime Minister Takaichi stated,
“President Trump’s diplomatic efforts to bring peace to these regions represent a remarkable achievement and a significant contribution to global stability.”
