Israel agrees to 60-day ceasefire under Trump’s mediation

Israel has agreed to a temporary ceasefire with the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas for 60 days. Former US President Donald Trump has announced this information. Trump announced this decision in a message on the social media Truth Social early Wednesday. He said that during this ceasefire period, efforts will be made to reach a permanent solution by working with all parties.

According to Trump, Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions for implementing the 60-day ceasefire. We want all parties to work together to permanently end the conflict during this time.

He praised the role of Qatar and Egypt, saying that they have worked very hard to bring peace. Now they are supposed to present their final proposal. I am hopeful that Hamas will accept the agreement – because if this opportunity is missed, the situation may worsen.

This temporary ceasefire was being discussed between Israel and Hamas for several months. It began with a proposal by Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff. According to the Times of Israel, Trump may have hinted at that proposal.

However, progress in the talks has been stalled for a long time. The main reason for this is that Israel wanted to maintain its right to attack Gaza again after the temporary ceasefire. On the other hand, Hamas has repeatedly said that they will not agree to any temporary agreement unless a permanent ceasefire is guaranteed.

The Times of Israel reported that Trump is promising a permanent solution to keep both sides happy and to implement the ceasefire. The mediators, Qatar and Egypt, as well as Arab countries, are still trying to bring the positions of both sides closer.

Meanwhile, two days ago, Trump directly said that he wants a ceasefire in Gaza. Then, the White House also reported that Trump wants to see an end to the ongoing massacre in Gaza and prioritizes establishing peace.

In this situation, Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next Monday. International observers have previously reported that the US administration is pressuring Israel to agree to a ceasefire.

Right now, the world is watching to see whether Hamas responds to this proposal and whether a new path to peace in the Middle East will finally open.
