Iran has claimed that more than 30 civilians were killed in recent US military airstrikes in the country’s southern region. The Iranian Health Ministry also said more than 260 people were injured in the attacks and are receiving treatment in hospitals.
According to The Guardian on Wednesday (July 15), Iranian government officials and health authorities released the casualty figures in separate statements posted on social media amid the ongoing tensions in the Persian Gulf region.
Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said in a post on X that more than 30 civilians had lost their lives in the latest airstrikes in southern Iran. Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, she said the government would make every effort to support those affected.
She added that southern Iran is not only a geographical region but also a vital part of the country’s economy and national life, making the suffering of its residents a matter of concern for the entire nation.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Health Ministry said the number of people injured in the attacks had exceeded 260. The wounded are being treated at hospitals across the region, with several reported to be in critical condition.
Hossein Kermanpour, head of the ministry’s public relations department, said in a post on X that at least six children were among the injured and were receiving close medical attention.
Iranian officials warned that the ongoing hostilities were further worsening the humanitarian situation in the country’s southern provinces.
There was no immediate response from the US military regarding Iran’s allegations.
