India’s Chenab Bridge surpasses Eiffel Tower

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (June 6) inaugurated the world’s highest railway bridge built over the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir. At a height of 359 meters, this bridge is taller than the Eiffel Tower.

The bridge is part of the ‘Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link’ project. Through which year-round rail connectivity is being established in the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. The project, worth about Rs 43,000 crore, is building a 272-km-long railway line, which includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges.

The Chenab Bridge is 1,315 meters long and can withstand winds of 266 km/h and an earthquake of magnitude 8. It has been built in such a way that it can survive for more than a century even in the Himalayan region. The bridge is expected to not only improve the communication system but also play a major role in tourism, supply of goods and overall economic development in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
