US President Donald Trump said, ‘India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire’. Along with Trump, both India and Pakistan have confirmed the ceasefire.
Stating that the ceasefire will be effective immediately, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said, ‘Pakistan has always fought for peace and security in this region. However, in this case, we have never compromised our sovereignty and integrity.’
On the other hand, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri said that both India and Pakistan will ‘cease all firing and military action on land, air and sea.’ He also said that the ceasefire has come into effect from 5 pm Indian time today.
Earlier, Trump announced the ceasefire between India and Pakistan on his own social media account Truth. He said that the two countries have agreed to a ceasefire agreement immediately.
In Truth, he wrote, “After a long night of negotiations mediated by the United States, I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire.”
He added, “I congratulate both countries for using their good sense and extraordinary intelligence.”
Military tensions between India and Pakistan in the border areas and Kashmir had reached a peak. Both countries have attacked and retaliated. The international community has been calling for a reduction in these tensions.
It is worth noting that on April 22, 26 people were killed in a gun attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir. India, blaming Pakistan for the attack, launched a missile attack on the country on Tuesday night. This resulted in several casualties in Pakistan. Pakistan claimed to have shot down several Indian aircraft and drones at that time.
Later, when New Delhi continued its attacks, Pakistan also attacked India. The country’s military announced that it had conducted a raid on Indian missile storage facilities.
