Houthi Missile Strike Shuts Down Ben Gurion Airport, Israelis Take Shelter

Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched a major military operation targeting Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, forcing a complete suspension of operations and sending millions of Israelis rushing to bomb shelters.

In a televised statement on Sunday, Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree confirmed the attack, saying it was carried out in solidarity with the “oppressed Palestinian people in Gaza,” as retaliation against what he called Israel’s “genocide” and aggression on Yemen.

Saree stated that the strike involved the use of a sophisticated hypersonic missile, dubbed “Palestine-2,” which successfully hit Ben Gurion Airport. The impact triggered nationwide sirens, leading to mass evacuations into shelters.

Israeli military sources reported that they were able to detect the missile launched from Yemen. Emergency sirens were sounded across multiple cities, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Authorities temporarily halted all flights at Ben Gurion Airport.

According to media reports, more than 200 sirens were activated across the country in response to the missile threat. Israeli military broadcasters noted that over the past five months, at least 70 missiles have been launched from Yemen toward Israel  averaging one every 48 hours.
