The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas said its fighters killed several Israeli soldiers in fierce fighting with government forces near Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, Hamas said resistance fighters ambushed a 12-member Israeli force inside a house in the Tanur neighborhood of the eastern Rafah area with two anti-personnel and anti-tank rockets, killing and wounding several.
Separately, Hamas’ armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, said it was engaging in fierce clashes with Israeli occupation forces operating in the El Geneina neighborhood, east of Rafah city.
The Qassam Brigades said, “As part of Operation Hell’s Gate, we detonated a powerful explosive device targeting a patrol of 7 soldiers near the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque in the Al-Tanur neighborhood, east of Rafah. We saw the dismembered bodies of several Israeli soldiers at the scene.”
Witnesses and residents of Rafah reported a large explosion. Israeli helicopters tried to evacuate the wounded. They said there was intense fighting in the area.
