Global Participation Marks Chinese Language Day in Geneva

On April 17 (local time), the “UN Chinese Language Day 2026” and the 6th CMG Chinese Language Video Festival were jointly celebrated at the United Nations Office in Geneva. On the occasion, Shen Haixiong, Director-General of China Media Group (CMG), delivered a video address.

The event was co-hosted by China Media Group, the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva, and the United Nations Office at Geneva. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva, and Chen Xu, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva, also attended and delivered remarks.

More than 350 guests participated in the event, including permanent representatives and senior diplomats from over 30 countries based in Geneva, representatives of international organizations and institutions, as well as participants from various countries.

Tatiana Valovaya stated in her address that, as one of the six official languages of the United Nations, Chinese serves as an important bridge between China and the world, as well as between Chinese civilization and other civilizations. She emphasized that the Chinese language holds significant importance in multilateral diplomacy.

Shen Haixiong said that CMG will continue to strengthen technological innovation under the framework of “5G + 4K/8K + AI” and build more practical and effective platforms for cultural exchange. He added that, through new technologies, CMG aims to promote dialogue among civilizations and contribute to greater understanding, peace, and hope in an increasingly complex and changing world.
