Gaza is currently the hungriest region in the world, the UN has said. They have warned that every resident of Gaza is now at risk of famine.
“Gaza is the hungriest place in the world,” said Jens Laerke of the UN humanitarian agency OCHA.
“100% of the population of Gaza is at risk of famine, it is very inhuman,” he said.
Humanitarian aid efforts are being severely hampered by Israeli sanctions, violent looting and a chaotic system that bypasses UN agencies. Due to these reasons, food, medicine and other emergency aid cannot reach the affected people properly.
The UN has expressed deep concern and called for immediate and effective humanitarian assistance to save the lives of millions of people.
