Gaza on the Brink of Famine and Epidemic

The besieged Gaza Strip is teetering on the edge of full-scale famine and epidemic. Continuous Israeli bombardment and severe restrictions on humanitarian convoys have exacerbated an already dire situation.

Over a hundred international aid organizations, including Amnesty International, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and Oxfam, have issued a joint statement expressing grave concern over the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. They warned that mass starvation is rapidly spreading and that the people of Gaza are being pushed toward death by hunger and malnutrition.

The statement highlighted alarming reports from doctors, particularly regarding children and the elderly, who are exhibiting record levels of acute malnutrition. Waterborne diseases, such as severe diarrhea, are spreading at epidemic levels. Food is no longer available in local markets, garbage is piling up in the streets, and adults are collapsing from hunger and dehydration.

According to the NGOs, an average of only 28 aid trucks are entering Gaza each day — an utterly inadequate number for over two million people. They stressed that the UN-led humanitarian response has not failed, but has been deliberately obstructed from functioning effectively.

The statement urged global leaders to act immediately: “There is no time left to wait for permissions. A demand for an immediate and permanent ceasefire must be made. Bureaucratic hurdles must be removed, all border crossings must be opened, and continuous aid must be delivered to every person in Gaza.”

They further noted that limited air drops and token agreements create a dangerous illusion of progress. These efforts, they warned, cannot replace the legal and moral responsibilities of states.

The statement concluded with a stark warning: if governments fail to act decisively now, there will soon be no one left to save.
