The original FIFA World Cup Trophy the ultimate symbol of global football glory has arrived in Dhaka, sparking immense excitement among fans across the capital. The iconic golden trophy reached Bangladesh at around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday and, following initial formalities at the airport, was taken to the Radisson Blu hotel in the city.
A special exhibition session for selected guests and viewers is scheduled to begin after 2:00 p.m. today. However, due to security concerns and logistical constraints, public access to view the trophy in person has been kept limited.
Adding to the excitement, former Brazilian star midfielder Gilberto Silva—part of Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning squad—has accompanied the trophy on its Bangladesh visit. His presence has further elevated the appeal of the exhibition and intensified enthusiasm among local football lovers.
The sixth edition of the “FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola” began on 3 January through a grand launch event in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Organised jointly by Coca-Cola and world football’s governing body FIFA, the tour has since been travelling across multiple countries, with Bangladesh being one of its key destinations.
Notably, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the largest in the tournament’s history. For the first time, the competition will be jointly hosted by three nations—Canada, Mexico and the United States. The expanded tournament will feature a record 48 teams, 104 matches, and an unprecedented scale of global celebration.
As part of this tour, the FIFA World Cup Trophy will visit 75 destinations across 30 FIFA member countries. Spanning more than 150 days, the journey is offering football fans around the world a rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the most coveted prize in the sport up close.
The arrival of the World Cup Trophy in Dhaka once again underscores a simple truth: in Bangladesh, football is not merely a game—it is passion, emotion and a shared dream.
