Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has announced that Bangladeshi expatriates will be able to cast their votes through postal ballots in the upcoming national parliamentary elections. To facilitate this, a mobile application named “Postal Ballot BD” is currently being developed.

The CEC made the announcement while exchanging views with expatriates at a program titled “Inauguration of Smart National ID Card Distribution and Encouraging Expatriates to Vote,” organized recently by the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto, Canada.

As the chief guest, the CEC inaugurated the overseas voter registration and national ID card distribution program. He also urged expatriate Bangladeshis to actively participate in exercising their voting rights in the forthcoming general election.

During his address, he elaborated on Bangladesh’s electoral process, the Commission’s preparations, the voter registration system for citizens residing abroad, and the procedures through which expatriates will be able to vote.

Expatriates expressed gratitude for the CEC’s visit to Canada and the opportunity for direct interaction. Many took part in an open discussion and Q&A session with him.

The event, conducted by Consul General Md. Faruk Hossain, was attended by over a hundred expatriate Bangladeshis, including businesspersons, doctors, engineers, academics, journalists, students, and representatives from various professions.
