Dr. Fakhrul Islam Babu 孫逸仙 nominated for AJHRF International Award 2025

Born on July 20, 1977, in Chandpur, Bangladesh, Dr. Fakhrul has built a career dedicated to public service, intercultural understanding, and social upliftment. He is widely known for his multifaceted leadership as an entrepreneur, activist, policymaker, and cultural ambassador, with a sustained impact through nonprofit initiatives, civic engagement, and cross-border collaboration.

An interdisciplinary scholar, Dr. Fakhrul has earned degrees spanning electronics, social sciences, international trade, law, and leadership. He completed a PhD in International Trade and continues legal studies to strengthen his advocacy for justice and the rule of law. This broad academic foundation informs his nuanced approach to complex socio-economic and governance challenges, with a pragmatic focus on real-world outcomes.

In 2005, Dr. Fakhrul founded a multinational enterprise with operations across China, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, and India. Under his leadership, the organization advanced international trade, manufacturing, and investment, creating jobs and contributing to regional development. Complementing his business leadership, he launched a China–Bangladesh–centered initiative to deepen bilateral ties and mutual understanding, and he serves as President of Asian Club Limited, promoting unity, cooperation, and regional collaboration.

His commitment to cultural harmony is reflected in his leadership of organizations that support naturalized residents and promote integration, cultural pride, and mutual respect. He champions an approach to national and cultural identity that emphasizes ethnic harmony, informed public discourse, and sustainable livelihoods—principles that continue to shape inclusive civic engagement and social cohesion in Hong Kong and beyond.

A devoted public servant, Dr. Fakhrul serves as District Security Law Tutor for the Hong Kong YTM district, educating residents and community leaders on national security frameworks and legal obligations. He is Director of the Bangladesh Chamber of Hong Kong, Cultural Secretary of the Bangladesh Association of Hong Kong, and Chairperson of the Yaumati Kaifong Association School, Hong Kong. He participates actively in local area committees and care-team networks, addressing local needs, supporting vulnerable populations, and strengthening neighborhood governance. In 2023, he stood for political office in the District Council elections; though not elected, his candidacy amplified community voices and underscored his ongoing commitment to participatory governance.

Dr. Fakhrul’s humanitarian record spans Bangladesh and Hong Kong, focusing on education, health, and philanthropy to uplift oppressed and underprivileged communities. His service has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Best Rotarian Award (2013), the TRUB Award (2021), and the Human Rights Award (2024).

In 2025, he received an Honorary Doctorate from the International Business School of Scandinavia for lifelong service and leadership in community development and cultural diplomacy, along with an additional Honorary Doctorate from a university in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for outstanding contributions to community service.

He maintains active affiliations with leading professional and cultural bodies, including the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Management Association, the Chinese Economist Society (USA), the Royal Asiatic Society Hong Kong, and the Institution of Engineers of Hong Kong. He is a life member of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and the Islamic Union Hong Kong, and is also affiliated with the International Islamic Society Hong Kong. A major donor to Rotary International, he is a past President and Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile, Hong Kong.

Dr. Fakhrul’s life is grounded in family—his wife, Amor Mabeza Aisha Islam, and their two sons, ISLAM Muhammad Tazimul and ISLAM Muhammad Latiful. Born in Bangladesh and later embracing Chinese citizenship, he adopted the name 孫逸仙 (Sun Yat-sen) as a tribute to reformist leadership, reflecting his commitment to intercultural citizenship, mutual respect, and shared prosperity.
