A devastating fire broke out at a nursing home in Manado, Sulawesi Island, Indonesia, claiming the lives of at least 16 people and leaving three others injured. The incident occurred on Sunday night, with the fire finally being brought under control on Monday morning.
According to Manado Police Officer Almasiah P. Hasibuan, the cause of the fire is still unknown, but an investigation is underway. The Indonesian TV channel Metro TV broadcast footage of the blaze, showing flames engulfing the nursing home building as residents cried out for help.
Manado Fire Service Chief Jimmy Rotinsulu stated that most of the victims were elderly and physically frail, making it difficult for them to escape the burning building.
