DAB Multicultural Football Tournament Promotes Social Inclusion in Yuen Long

The DAB Yuen Long Branch and the DAB Ethnic Minorities Committee organized the “Multi-Cultural Football Tournament” on March 29, 2026, as part of their ongoing commitment to promoting social inclusion and a sense of national identity among ethnic minority youths. The event drew six teams and more than 80 players, with participants from Pakistan, Nepal, Africa, and local squads such as the Himalaya Project team under the Yuen Long Police District and Best Union Yuen Long U18 football team. The day-long tournament highlighted the power of sport to bridge cultural divides and build camaraderie among youths from diverse backgrounds.

Throughout the matches, players exhibited strong teamwork, swift counterattacks, and impressive individual skills, contributing to an engaging and competitive atmosphere. The tournament’s overarching theme, “Multi-cultural Football,” aimed to encourage meaningful interaction between ethnic minority youths and the wider community, fostering mutual respect and social cohesion. Organisers emphasized that sport can be a vehicle for empowerment, helping young people develop confidence, national belonging, and a sense of responsibility within Hong Kong society.

The opening ceremony featured a ceremonial ball-gounce and remarks from prominent figures, including Legislative Councillor Chow Ho-ding, representatives from the Yuen Long Police District, and Guo Jingran, secretary of Jialian Yuen Long FC, who helped host the event. In the afternoon, the prize-giving ceremony brought together a roster of distinguished guests, including National Committee member Lü Jian, Liaison Office New Territories Work Department director Zhou Wenling, LegCo members Chow Ho-ding and Yao Ming, and senior officials from the Home Affairs Department and police community relations units. Their participation underscored the event’s significance as a platform for cultural exchange and mutual respect among Hong Kong’s diverse communities.

Looking ahead, the organizers reiterated their commitment to hosting similar activities in the future, inviting broader participation from different ethnic backgrounds. They stressed that continued support for such initiatives will strengthen community ties, encourage youth engagement, and reinforce the city’s inclusive spirit.
