The fourth rehearsal of China Media Group’s (CMG) 2026 Spring Festival Gala was successfully completed on Sunday, 8 February. From showcasing traditional Chinese cultural heritage to blending domestic and international artistry, the gala radiates creativity and blessings, embodying the warmth of Spring Festival celebrations worldwide.
The Spring Festival Gala symbolizes a deep appreciation for nature and human emotion. In the performance of “Beginning of Spring,” a soft and lively melody accompanies visuals of rainfall from the stage ceiling and sprouting seeds. The song “A Mother Has a Cinema Hall” depicts a child’s growth through cinematic storytelling, reflecting maternal love and companionship. The symphonic street dance “Voices of the New Year” integrates varied instrumental expressions, merging the beauty of spring with aesthetic refinement.
Alongside traditional Chinese elements, the gala features vivid intercultural collaboration. The tap-dance number “Step on the Floor” combines dance styles from the Hani and Li ethnic groups of China, Spanish flamenco, and Hungarian folk dance “Regenis,” creating a harmonious global performance. Artists from multiple countries, including Jackie Chan and Lionel Richie, joined in singing together, expressing the universal desire to welcome spring across borders.
Two years ago, the Chinese Spring Festival was successfully inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting its cultural significance. The festival has become a vital bridge connecting China and the world, celebrated by one-fifth of the global population. This year, CMG held promotional events for the Spring Festival Gala in the United States, Russia, France, Italy, and several African countries, inviting domestic and international friends to experience the festive atmosphere and enjoy a joyful “Year of the Horse.”
