Chinese Researchers Survey Natural Resources in the South China Sea

Chinese marine engineers have been conducting year-round surveys across various regions of the South China Sea to gather data on natural resources—information expected to significantly support ecological forecasting, ocean monitoring, environmental prediction, and natural disaster prevention.

Engineers from the Sansha Marine Center under China’s Ministry of Natural Resources have been observing multiple shades of blue across the sea surface, which reveal details about weather patterns, marine life, and the geological structure of the seabed.

Liu Thaorong, one of the project engineers, said, “By carefully collecting data on natural resources, we are independently safeguarding China’s sovereignty.”

The research team has also collected samples of more than 400 species of fish and over 300 species of shellfish, compiling their findings into published reference materials.
