China Strongly Opposes Potential Attacks on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

At a regular press briefing held in Beijing on March 31 (Tuesday), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning voiced strong opposition to the potential for U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. She stated that any armed attack on peaceful nuclear facilities under the safeguards and supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would violate the UN Charter, international law, and the IAEA’s statutes.

Mao further noted that such actions would seriously undermine the authority of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and weaken the global nuclear non-proliferation regime, potentially leading to grave consequences for regional peace and security.

She emphasized that China firmly condemns any such potential attacks and reiterated its position that the Iranian nuclear issue should be resolved through political and diplomatic means. Beijing also called on all relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
