Amid rising tensions surrounding the Iran issue, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for an immediate halt to military operations by the United States and Israel. He stressed that ending military actions is the only viable path to prevent the region from sliding into a wider and more dangerous conflict.
Wang Yi made the remarks during a phone conversation on Tuesday with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said China does not support attacks against Gulf countries. He further emphasized that Beijing strongly condemns any strikes targeting civilian infrastructure or innocent civilians. According to Wang, the ongoing war against Iran has lost its legitimacy and legal basis, and if prolonged, it will only lead to meaningless loss of life.
During the conversation, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar urged all parties involved in the current crisis to exercise restraint and underscored the importance of resolving the situation through dialogue and diplomacy. He also praised China’s efforts in addressing the crisis and expressed Pakistan’s willingness to work closely with Beijing on international platforms, including the United Nations.
In response, Wang Yi noted that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners, highlighting the long-standing tradition of regular communication and coordination between the two countries on major regional and international issues. He also voiced support for Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.
The discussion also touched upon the recent border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Chinese foreign minister said that China’s special envoy on Afghan affairs is actively working to facilitate dialogue and understanding between the two sides. He stressed that easing tensions and returning to the negotiating table as soon as possible is of paramount importance.
In addition, Wang Yi raised the issue of ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan. China expressed firm support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and called for the highest level of security for Chinese personnel working in the country.
