At the invitation of Ms. Israt Ara, Consul General, Hon John Lee Ka- Chiu, the Chief Executive (CE) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), attended the celebration of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh as the Chief Guest on 25 April 2023. This is the first time a CE graced Bangladesh’s National Day Reception. After assuming his duties last year, the CE graced such an occasion for the first time. Therefore, Bangladesh takes pride in being the first country to receive him as the Chief Guest in their National Day Reception program. Other guests include the Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Legislative Council members of Hong Kong, the Secretary/Under Secretary of the Government, Consuls General/Honorary Consuls and members of the diplomatic corps of around fifty countries, academia, Editor-in-Chief of South China Morning Post, Senior journalists of China Daily Hong Kong Edition, representative of international organizations, MDs of different companies, investors and expatriate Bangladeshi nationals. In their remarks, the Hon CE and CG vowed to strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Hong Kong. The guests highly appreciated the well-organized event of the Consulate on this August occasion.
