Chief Adviser Orders Nationwide Fire Safety Inspections Across Public and Private Institutions

Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has directed that a week-long inspection campaign be conducted across all public and private institutions in the country to ensure adequate fire safety preparedness.

The directive was issued on Thursday during a meeting of the Advisory Council held at the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO). Following the meeting, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters at a press conference organized at the Foreign Service Academy, where Law Adviser Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam was also present.

“The Chief Adviser has instructed a week-long inspection to identify gaps in fire safety preparedness at all government and private institutions,” said the Press Secretary. He added that Professor Yunus has urged all advisers to personally oversee the fire safety readiness of the ministries and departments under their supervision.

During the meeting, Adviser for Commerce and Civil Aviation Sheikh Bashir Uddin briefed the council on the post-fire situation at the airport, stating that cargo and flight operations have returned to normal, though the damaged cargo building remains under inspection.

A technical team led by Dr. Fakhrul Amin of BUET is currently assessing how soon the damaged facility can be restored for use. Meanwhile, the government has sought forensic assistance from Scotland Yard (UK), as well as from relevant authorities in Australia, China, and Turkey, to determine the cause of the fire.

The Press Secretary further informed that the meeting also discussed the upcoming national elections, focusing on ensuring transparency and accountability in the process. The use of police body cameras and installation of CCTV systems at polling stations were discussed in detail, along with the necessary legal framework and operational guidelines to implement these measures.
