At the invitation of Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiyev (Talgatbek Turdakunovich Zulpukarov, also known as Turgunbek Uulu in some references), Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, visited Kyrgyzstan from July 23 to 24.
During the visit, Zhao met with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov in Bishkek and held talks with Parliament Speaker Turgunbek Uulu.
In his meeting with President Japarov, Zhao noted that under the personal guidance of the two heads of state, China-Kyrgyzstan relations have rapidly advanced and entered their best period in history. He emphasized China’s willingness to work with Kyrgyzstan to follow the strategic guidance of the two leaders, deepen traditional friendship, strengthen strategic mutual trust, firmly support each other on core interests, expand bilateral trade and investment, and enhance cultural exchanges.
President Japarov affirmed Kyrgyzstan’s firm support for China’s core interests and its stance on key issues such as Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Xizang (Tibet). He also expressed support for the three major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s active participation in the joint development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
In his meeting with Speaker Turgunbek Uulu, Zhao shared insights on China’s modernization and economic development, stating that China’s path to modernization would offer new opportunities for the development of all nations.
Speaker Turgunbek Uulu expressed the Kyrgyz Parliament’s willingness to strengthen communication and cooperation with China’s National People’s Congress, jointly implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and enhance collaboration across various fields including economy, trade, culture, science and technology, and education. He also stressed the importance of improving the investment and business environment.
During his stay in Kyrgyzstan, Zhao Leji visited the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company Limited and laid a wreath at the Urkun Memorial.
