BEIJING, July 28 — Important instructions from Chinese President Xi Jinping were conveyed at the National Conference on Overseas Chinese Affairs, held in Beijing from July 27 to 28, calling for stronger unity among overseas Chinese communities and greater efforts to mobilize their contributions toward national development.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), delivered a speech at the conference.
Wang said President Xi Jinping emphasized that, on the new journey ahead, it is necessary to take Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guiding principle, fully implement the Party’s policies concerning overseas Chinese affairs, and closely align efforts with the overall work of the Party and the country.
According to Wang, Xi called for greater efforts to unite the hearts and efforts of overseas Chinese communities, guide overseas Chinese, returned overseas Chinese and their relatives to actively contribute to the great cause of national reunification, encourage unity and cooperation among Chinese people at home and abroad, and advance the broader goals of building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization.
Wang further noted that President Xi attaches great importance to overseas Chinese affairs and has highly appreciated the positive contributions made by overseas Chinese, returned overseas Chinese and their families in promoting national economic and social development, preserving and spreading Chinese culture, and strengthening exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries.
