Call to Halt U.S. Support for Strengthening Taiwan’s So-Called “Diplomatic Ties”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday at a regular press briefing in Beijing that the United States must stop assisting in strengthening Taiwan’s so-called “diplomatic relations.” The spokesperson stated that the U.S. has been making unfounded accusations against China’s legitimate efforts to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as against other countries’ rightful adherence to the One-China principle. Such actions, he noted, deliberately blur the line between right and wrong and attempt to distort facts. China finds this behavior entirely unacceptable and has lodged strong protests. Guo further emphasized that the United States should abide by the One-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, refrain from interfering in China’s internal affairs regarding the Taiwan issue, and avoid sending misleading signals to “Taiwan independence” forces.
