Recently, CGTN under China Media Group (CMG) released the results of a public opinion survey on U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. According to the survey, 90 percent of respondents believe that U.S. arms supplies to Taiwan are pushing people in this Chinese province toward a dangerous, war-like situation.
81.1 percent of respondents said that the Taiwan authorities’ practice of sacrificing long-term interests for short-term political gains is undermining Taiwan’s economic lifeline and future development prospects. Meanwhile, 87.7 percent believe that the actions of the Taiwan authorities pose a serious threat to the safety and interests of Taiwanese people living overseas.
The Taiwan legislature recently passed an impeachment motion against Lai Ching-te. In this regard, 86.9 percent of respondents said the move reflects strong condemnation and firm opposition from local residents to what they described as the Lai administration’s actions of “selling out Taiwan” and “destroying Taiwan.” Furthermore, 89.4 percent called on the Taiwan authorities to stop provocations and avoid further escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
The survey also found that 91.9 percent of respondents believe the Taiwan issue should be resolved by the Chinese people themselves, without interference from other countries. 85.8 percent stated that the Taiwan issue concerns China’s core interests and represents the first red line in China–U.S. relations that must not be crossed.
It is reported that the survey was released on CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms. Within 18 hours, 10,002 respondents participated in the vote and shared their views.
