A devastating bus accident in Nepal has left 19 people dead, including a British tourist, after the vehicle lost control on a mountainous road and plunged into an icy river. Another 25 passengers were injured in the crash.
The incident occurred early on Monday, 23 February, as the passenger bus was traveling from the tourism hub of Pokhara to the capital, Kathmandu. Authorities said the bus veered off the winding mountain road in Dhading district and fell more than 200 meters (655 feet) into the snow-fed Trishuli River.
Senior police officer Prakash Dahal confirmed that of the 44 passengers on board, 19 had died and 25 were receiving treatment. He added that the casualties included one British national.
Dahal also stated that a Chinese citizen and a New Zealander were among the injured, though he did not provide further details.
According to Mohan Prasad Nupan, information officer at the district administration office, rescue operations were completed by dawn, and all injured passengers have been transported to nearby hospitals for medical care.
The crash has prompted widespread mourning, with tributes pouring in for the victims—particularly the British traveler, described by loved ones as a “very loving and caring” individual.
