Beijing Seeks Peace on China-India Border: Chinese Spokesperson

On August 18, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning provided details regarding Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to India and the 24th meeting of special representatives on China-India border issues.

The spokesperson noted that in October of last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met in Kazan, a meeting that provided guidance for improving bilateral relations. During his current visit to India, Foreign Minister Wang Yi aims to advance the implementation of key consensus reached between the leaders of both countries. By maintaining high-level exchanges and enhancing mutual political trust and practical cooperation, China seeks to manage differences smoothly and promote continuous, healthy, and stable development of bilateral relations.

The meeting of special representatives on the China-India border serves as a high-level channel for border discussions between the two countries. In December of last year, the 23rd meeting of these special representatives was held in Beijing, addressing issues such as border delineation, border management, mechanism building, and border exchanges and cooperation. Since the beginning of this year, both sides have been working through diplomatic channels to implement these agreements positively.

Regarding the current meeting, Mao Ning stated that, building on previous agreements with a positive and constructive approach, China seeks to engage in deep exchanges with India and jointly maintain sustainable peace and stability in the border region.

During his stay in India, Wang Yi is expected to hold in-depth discussions with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on bilateral relations and shared concerns, the spokesperson added.
