Bangladesh, New Zealand Explore New Areas of Bilateral Cooperation

New Zealand High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. David Pine, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday, May 18.

During the meeting, the two sides held productive discussions on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and New Zealand, with a particular focus on expanding trade and cooperation across several promising sectors.

High Commissioner David Pine expressed New Zealand’s interest in enhancing collaboration with Bangladesh in areas including pharmaceuticals, tourism, higher education and food processing. He highlighted the significant potential for partnership and investment in these sectors.

The New Zealand envoy also praised Bangladesh’s proactive role in addressing the adverse impacts of global climate change and encouraged the country to continue playing a stronger leadership role on the international stage.

In response, Adviser Humayun Kabir stated that despite being one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, Bangladesh remains firmly committed to sustainable development, environmental protection and the promotion of a green economy. He affirmed that Bangladesh is prepared to contribute more actively to global efforts aimed at tackling climate challenges.

The meeting was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the friendly relations between the two countries.
