DHAKA, Oct. 26 — The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to roll out its newest domestic competition, the “Domestic Three” or “D3 Trophy,” scheduled to begin this December with an action-packed Twenty20 format, following the inaugural players’ draft held at the Sheraton Dhaka on Monday.
Breaking away from traditional franchise cricket auctions driven by direct cash bidding, the BCB introduced a novel point-based allocation model to assemble rosters, with participating teams bidding using structured points reserves.
Bidding opened with intense competition for national squad standouts. Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam emerged as the draft’s most sought-after acquisition, secured by Citizens Bank for a tournament-high 23 million (2.3 crore) points. Fellow frontline fast bowler Taskin Ahmed went to Walton for 21 million points, while hard-hitting opening batter Tanzid Hasan Tamim joined the Fortune Group on a 20-million-point bid.
Off-spinning all-rounder Mahedi Hasan was the first player under the hammer, signed by Ace Blue Star for 15 million points. A lively duel between Walton and Fortune for veteran left-hander Soumya Sarkar concluded with Fortune sealing the deal at 7.5 million points.
The BCB categorized participating players across five baseline valuation tiers: Category A at 3 million (30 lakh) points, Category B at 4 million (40 lakh) points, Category C at 2 million (20 lakh) points, Category D at 1 million (10 lakh) points, and Category E at a floor valuation of 500,000 (5 lakh) points.
