H.E. Ms. Shahnaz Gazi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of Bulgaria, formally presented her Letters of Credence to H.E. Mr. Rumen Radev, Hon’ble President of the Republic of Bulgaria, on 17 October 2025,.
The official ceremony was held at the Presidency building in Sofia with full state honours, including two Guards of Honour— one upon arrival and another at departure — and the ceremonial playing of the national anthems of both Bulgaria and Bangladesh, symbolising the strong diplomatic ties and mutual respect between the two nations.
Following the presentation of credentials, H.E. Ms. Gazi was received in audience by the Hon’ble President of Bulgaria. H.E. Mr. Rumen Radev welcomed Ambassador Gazi and expressed Bulgaria’s sincere interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh. Ambassador Shahnaz Gazi conveyed the warm greetings of the Hon’ble President of Bangladesh, Mr. Mohammed Shahabuddin, and the Hon’ble Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, to the President and, through him, to the friendly people of Bulgaria. The greetings were gracefully accepted and reciprocated by the President of Bulgaria.
The Hon’ble President of Bulgaria highlighted several key areas of potential collaboration, including trade and business development, education and academic exchanges, science and technology, cultural exchange, labour mobility, and joint efforts to address global challenges such as climate change. It was noted during the meeting that there is significant untapped potential between the two countries that can be explored through closer governmental, institutional, and private sector engagement and both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to expanding and diversifying bilateral relations across a wide spectrum. Ambassador Gazi mentioned that Bulgaria holds a special place in Bangladesh’s diplomatic history, as it was one of the first countries in the world—and the fourth overall—to recognise Bangladesh shortly after its independence in 1971. The Ambassador expressed her sincere appreciation for the hospitality extended by the Bulgarian authorities and pledged to work towards further strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and Bulgaria.
The day’s programme concluded with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, in honour of Bulgaria’s fallen heroes.
