20 September :Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Abdelouahab Saidani paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, M.P., Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 20 September 2026.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Algeria and highlighted the growing scope of cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, the State Minister urged the Algerian Ambassador to enhance bilateral collaboration in the energy sector to help ensure Bangladesh’s long-term energy security.
The two sides discussed various avenues for strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, climate change, sports, culture and people-to-people contacts.
Ms. Islam stressed the importance of cooperation in the fertiliser sector to support Bangladesh’s food security. She also underscored the need for closer collaboration on climate issues, noting that both Bangladesh and Algeria are facing the adverse impacts of global warming.
The State Minister encouraged Algeria to increase imports of biodegradable and environmentally friendly jute and jute products from Bangladesh. She also emphasised the importance of strengthening people-to-people contacts and deepening bilateral partnership in sports and culture.
Ambassador Saidani reiterated Algeria’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Bangladesh in the fields of energy, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, sports and culture. He also stressed the importance of high-level visits between the two countries as a means of further deepening the existing bilateral relations.
