DHAKA, Oct 13 — Bangladesh and Algeria have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors, with a strong focus on energy security, fertilizer supply, and maritime connectivity, during a high-level diplomatic meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
The Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, Abdelouahab Saidani, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s newly appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humaium Kobir, to congratulate him on assuming office and review the broader framework of bilateral relations between the two nations.
Reaffirming the historic ties and shared values underpinning bilateral ties, State Minister Kobir underscored the imperative of long-term energy security for Bangladesh, urging increased collaboration with energy-rich Algeria. Highlighting national priorities, the State Minister also emphasized secure fertilizer supply arrangements from Algeria as vital to sustaining Bangladesh’s agricultural output and domestic food security.
The two sides explored avenues to diversify economic cooperation, identifying trade, reciprocal investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, shipbuilding, and enhanced people-to-people connectivity as priority areas for mutual engagement. Kobir stressed that regular high-level diplomatic visits would be critical to elevating the partnership between the two nations.
Responding positively to Dhaka’s priorities, Ambassador Saidani reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to expanding collaboration, specifically noting energy partnerships, pharmaceutical exports, fertilizer cooperation, shipbuilding, and the establishment of maritime shipping links. The envoy also echoed the need for scheduled high-level exchanges to consolidate diplomatic and commercial ties moving forward.
