A massive fire at a nightclub in Arpora, North Goa has left at least 25 people dead and around 50 others injured, who are currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, December 7. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, along with senior officials, confirmed the casualties during an early-morning briefing.

According to Goa Police, most of the victims died from smoke inhalation. Among the deceased are four tourists and 14 staff members. The identities of the remaining seven victims have not yet been confirmed. The fire broke out suddenly at the nightclub late Saturday night, trapping both local residents and tourists inside.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Sawant wrote, “Today is a day of deep sorrow for Goa. After visiting the site, I have ordered a thorough investigation. Strict action will be taken against those responsible.”

Speaking to the media at the scene, the Chief Minister added that three victims died from burn injuries while the rest suffocated due to smoke. He also confirmed that three to four of the deceased were tourists.

According to a report by The Indian Express, police suspect the blaze originated from a gas cylinder explosion inside the nightclub, identified as “Birch by Romeo Lane.” Several fire service units rushed to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control. Initial investigations suggest that most of the victims were employees of the establishment.
