Any Action by Japan Will Be Seen as Aggression”: China’s Envoy at the UN

China will issue a strong response to any Japanese military involvement regarding the Taiwan question, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong warned on Wednesday.

He noted that recent remarks by senior Japanese leaders have attempted to link Taiwan to a so-called “existential crisis” for Japan, while hinting at possible actions under the U.S.–Japan alliance framework.

Fu cautioned that if Japan invokes the notion of “collective self-defense” under any pretext, such a move would be regarded as an act of aggression against China, and Beijing would respond forcefully.

Reiterating China’s long-standing position, Fu stressed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and how the issue is resolved is entirely an internal matter of the Chinese state.

He added that such statements from Japan pose a serious challenge to the post–World War II international order. Peace-loving nations, he said, should remain vigilant and oppose these developments.
