Amid the tension between Islamabad and New Delhi over the recent deadly attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, rumors have arisen that Turkey has sent weapons in a plane carrying military equipment to Pakistan. However, the country has dismissed this allegation.
On Tuesday (April 29), Bangladesh’s state news agency BSS reported this news, citing a report by the Anadolu Agency.
The Turkish government’s Directorate of Communications said in a post on the social media platform Xe (formerly Twitter), that the news published by some media outlets titled ‘Turkey has sent six planes loaded with weapons to Pakistan’ is not true.
Turkey said that a Turkish transport plane landed in Pakistan only to refuel and later left Pakistan for a specific destination.
The allegation that Turkey is sending weapons to Islamabad has been dismissed as baseless after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint.
On Sunday, the Times of India reported that a Hercules-130 cargo plane of the Turkish Air Force landed in Karachi on April 27. It was carrying various military equipment.
The Times of India claimed that this was an indication that Turkey was providing defense assistance to Pakistan. The report mentioned that this was part of a larger defense assistance.
Meanwhile, the Turkish President told reporters in Ankara after a cabinet meeting on Monday regarding the ongoing tensions between the two South Asian neighbors, “Turkey wants an end to the tension between Pakistan and India as soon as possible before the situation worsens.”
He said, “We want the growing tension between Pakistan and India to be reduced as soon as possible so that the situation does not become more serious.”
