A new strain of empox virus has been identified in China

The country’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported this information on Thursday.

Last year, the World Health Organization declared empox infection a global public health emergency. Since then, the infection of this virus has spread to other countries.

China’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they found a cluster of IB subclade outbreaks. The person on whose body it was detected had traveled to the African country of Congo. Four more cases were found in infected persons after close contact with that foreigner. Symptoms observed in patients include mild skin rash and blisters.

Eppox is spread through close contact and causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled sores on the body. Although usually mild, in rare cases it can be fatal. Source: Reuters
