The exhibition titled “China’s Progress in Digital and Intelligent Empowerment of Women and Girls” was inaugurated on the morning of October 14 in Beijing. As a sideline event of the World Conference on Women, the ceremony was attended by Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping and UNESCO Special Envoy for the Advancement of Girls’ and Women’s Education; Sima Sami Bahous, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women; as well as spouses of foreign leaders, women’s organization leaders, and representatives from friendly circles.
In her remarks, Peng Liyuan said that with the rapid development of science and technology and the deep integration of digitalization and intelligence, the new generation of information technology has become a new engine for empowering women and girls to realize their dreams. The active development of digital and intelligent technologies in China has transformed the lifestyles of women and girls, creating vast opportunities for their advancement in the digital and intelligent era.
She emphasized that promoting the development of women’s interests is a shared responsibility of the international community. Currently, countries around the world are actively exploring effective ways to ensure that the benefits of scientific and technological innovation reach women and girls. “I look forward to working with everyone to spread warmth through action, support dreams through technology, and strive to open up a digital and intelligent future full of opportunities for women and girls, jointly advancing the global women’s cause to new heights,” she said.
In her speech, Sima Sami Bahous highly praised China’s remarkable achievements in bridging the digital gender gap, promoting women’s all-round development, and protecting women’s rights. She said that China’s hosting of the World Conference on Women has made a significant contribution to advancing the global women’s agenda. She also called on the international community to work together to empower women and girls to achieve comprehensive development in the digital era.
After the opening ceremony, Peng Liyuan, along with Chinese and foreign guests, toured the exhibition. Visitors praised China’s accomplishments in empowering women and girls through digital technology and expressed admiration for China’s rich traditional culture.
