The Department of Environment and district administrations conducted day-long coordinated mobile court drives across several districts to curb noise pollution, air pollution, and other environmental violations. The drives, carried out in Sunamganj, Panchagarh, Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Shariatpur, Narayanganj, Sherpur, and Jhenaidah, resulted in fines, seizures, and legal directives against multiple polluting vehicles, establishments, and activities.
In Sunamganj, the mobile court fined five vehicles a total of Tk 3,500 for using hydraulic horns in violation of the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2025, on the Sylhet–Sunamganj regional highway. Five hydraulic horns were also seized. The operation was led by Executive Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Hridoy of the Sunamganj District Administration, with prosecution support from Inspector Md. Saiful Islam of the Department of Environment. Awareness leaflets were distributed among drivers and the public, and stickers were placed on vehicles.
In Panchagarh, a mobile court fined a truck Tk 500 for transporting construction materials in an unclean condition and imposed Tk 1,000 in fines on two noise-polluting trucks. Four hydraulic horns were seized. The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Asif Ali, with prosecution conducted by Md. Yusuf Ali, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment.
In Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area, an inspection of the under-construction Ananda Building found that the rod-cutting machine and mixer machine were non-operational, and sand piles were covered with tarpaulin. A notice was issued to the site representative, instructing future compliance with regulations. The operation was led by Executive Magistrate Faizunnesa Akter of the Department of Environment.
In Shariatpur, two truck drivers were fined Tk 1,000 for using hydraulic horns, and four horns were seized. The drive was led by Executive Magistrate Khaled Mahmud Tamim, with prosecution support from Md. Rasel Noman, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment.
In Narayanganj, the district administration and district police, with approval from the Department of Environment, conducted a joint drive in Fatullah, where an environmentally non-compliant weaving dyeing factory had its electricity connection disconnected. The factory was instructed to obtain an environmental clearance certificate and to construct an ETP and install an ATP.
In Sherpur, two establishments were penalized Tk 35,000 and 88 kg of illegal polythene shopping bags were seized during a drive against banned polythene. Executive Magistrate Shubhojyoti Sarkar Born led the operation, with prosecution by Inspector Sushil Kumar Das.
In Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, a mobile court fined two truck drivers Tk 2,000 for using hydraulic horns and seized four horns. In Kaliganj Upazila, a fine of Tk 2,000 was imposed for storing construction materials in the open in violation of the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022. Another shopkeeper was fined Tk 5,000 for selling banned polythene, and 49 kg of polythene were seized.
District administrations, district police, and officials of the Department of Environment assisted in conducting the drives across the respective districts. According to the Department of Environment, such coordinated enforcement operations will continue in the future to curb environmental pollution.
