King Felipe VI of Spain Meets President Xi Jinping in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with King Felipe VI of Spain on Wednesday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

President Xi highlighted that over more than 50 years of diplomatic relations, China and Spain have approached their partnership with a strategic and long-term perspective, respecting and supporting each other while promoting open cooperation and global fairness. Xi said China values its traditional friendship with Spain and aims to build a more dynamic and influential comprehensive strategic partnership.

He added that China welcomes greater imports of high-quality Spanish products and seeks to expand cooperation in new energy, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence, while encouraging mutual investment and joint projects in third markets, including Latin America.

Marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, Xi emphasized China’s vision of a shared future for humanity, advocating dialogue among nations beyond social and ideological differences. China, he said, stands ready to work with Spain to uphold the UN’s central role, defend free trade and global order, and promote a fairer international governance system.

King Felipe VI commended China’s progress, particularly in poverty reduction and green development, reaffirmed Spain’s adherence to the One-China policy, and expressed willingness to deepen strategic cooperation and safeguard the international trading system.
