On the morning of October 14, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. President Mahama is visiting China to attend the World Conference on Women.

During the meeting, President Xi said, “This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Ghana. The friendship between the two countries, forged by the older generations of leaders through their personal efforts, has grown stronger over time. China firmly supports Ghana in pursuing a modernization path suited to its national conditions and is willing to work with Ghana to enhance cooperation in all areas and build a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.”

Xi emphasized that China has always upheld the principles of sincerity, real results, amity, good faith, and justice in its cooperation with Africa. China is willing to strengthen mutual political trust with Ghana and support each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns. Both sides should jointly implement the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit, explore diverse models of collaboration, and expand cooperation in mining, energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, and fisheries. China will help Ghana transform its resource advantages into a driving force for development, coordinate resource utilization and environmental protection, and promote high-quality bilateral cooperation. They should also work together to advance the Global Governance Initiative and promote a fairer and more reasonable global governance system. Ghana is expected to benefit from China’s zero-tariff policy on goods from African countries that have diplomatic relations with China.

He said Ghana and China share a long-standing friendship and expressed gratitude for China’s strong support and assistance through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
