The Awakening of Young Hearts Through Cultural Exchange

Education is a bridge that connects hearts; exchange is a bond that warms the world. A delegation from Shaheen School and College, Chattogram Branch  operated by the Bangladesh Air Force  visited Beijing Yuying School on September 23. The delegation took part in a series of wonderful and heartfelt activities with the teachers and students of the Chinese institution. The team was led by Principal Saleh Ahmed Khan of Shaheen School and College, Chattogram Branch. Yuying School, one of Beijing’s most renowned educational institutions, has a history of over 70 years and is well known for its modern educational and management concepts.

During the welcoming ceremony, Zhang Suyan, a junior middle school student of Yuying School, performed the Beijing Opera dance “Hong Yu Tan Xin.” Bangladeshi teachers and students also presented beautiful dances and songs in chorus.

After watching the Bangladeshi students’ performance, Yuying student Cui Wenhui said, “Their dance reflected traditional beauty blended with a touch of modern innovation. They used a variety of musical instruments, creating a perfect harmony between music and dance.”

Bangladeshi student Nahin Tajrin Ullah shared, “I am very happy. Experiencing Chinese culture with teachers and classmates here made me feel like I was back in Bangladesh, surrounded by family. We became friends instantly — the feeling was truly wonderful!”

The Bangladeshi delegation toured the Yuying School campus, which is often referred to as “the most beautiful campus in Beijing.” It features five gardens, seven courtyards, a school farm, a biological research base, and even a small zoo — all designed to bring students closer to nature and help them appreciate the beauty of life. The campus corridors lined with books and the “Wentao Road” — engraved with quotes from ancient philosophers — create a rich cultural atmosphere.

Bangladeshi teacher Sanjida Akter remarked, “It was a great honor for us to visit the same Beijing Yuying School once visited by President Xi Jinping. The campus is huge and very well-organized. We observed several programs and even participated in some ourselves. The school’s interactive learning approach was truly inspiring. We hope to apply this inspiration in our own school. Everything here was amazing.”

Chinese language teacher Fan Ayuan of Yuying School said, “Through this event, our students have gained a deeper understanding of Bangladesh and its culture. The exchanges between students occurred very naturally and warmly. This friendship is not only between two countries but also between two schools — and most importantly, between the students themselves.”

The Bangladeshi students also attended traditional Chinese culture classes, where they practiced calligraphy, wrote the Chinese character “福” (meaning good fortune) on fans, and learned the art of traditional Chinese knot weaving.

Yuying student Niu Yuchen said, “Although we live in different countries and speak different languages, we can still understand each other’s smiles. Our love for life and desire for friendship are exactly the same.”

Bangladeshi student Washiwur Rahman shared, “The experience of visiting this school was full of joy. The teachers and students were very friendly — talking with them felt like speaking to people from my own country. I made many friends here, and the beautiful environment left a deep impression. These memories will remain unforgettable for us.”

Bangladeshi teacher Kazi Mohammad Rashedul Islam added, “At present, Bangladesh-China relations are stronger than ever. Our countries share not only diplomatic but also economic, social, and cultural ties. China has always stood by Bangladesh in its economic development. The friendship between our nations is profound, and I believe it will continue to flourish in the future.”

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, as well as the Year of People-to-People Exchanges between the two countries. Both sides expressed great satisfaction with the exchange program and strong expectations for future cooperation.

Yuying student Wang Aimei said, “I hope the friendship between China and Bangladesh lasts forever. We should learn from each other’s strengths, appreciate each other’s values, and enrich our own cultures by studying one another’s traditions. I hope such exchange activities are held more frequently so that our peoples can understand and appreciate each other better.”

Principal Saleh Ahmed Khan of Shaheen School and College, Chattogram, commented, “This visit is a bridge of friendship. Over the past 50 years, China has helped Bangladesh build many bridges made of concrete and steel. Through this visit, we have built a different kind of bridge — a bridge of friendship. This bridge is made not of steel, but of love, understanding, educational, technological, and cultural exchange. From this perspective, our visit is truly significant. We also hope to invite Chinese students to visit Bangladesh, so they can experience our culture, heritage, and education system. This will further strengthen our bond — and I am very optimistic about that.”

Yuying School Principal Zhao Jia said, “The outcome of today’s exchange has been wonderful. Our students shared traditional Beijing Opera with the Bangladeshi delegation, while they, in turn, showcased their traditional art and culture. This has fostered a deeper and more meaningful connection between us. In the future, we will continue communication and collaboration between our schools, focusing on cultural, technological, and educational exchange to create more opportunities for mutual learning.”

This visit was not just a cultural exchange — it was a dialogue of hearts, marking the beginning of a new chapter in educational cooperation between the two nations.
