China Says It Seeks Global Modernization, Not Just Its Own

“This grand military parade is not merely a commemoration of history, but also a guide for the future,” “Unity and cooperation are the key guarantees for maintaining peace amid challenges,” and “Long-term peace can only be achieved if people around the world stand shoulder to shoulder”—these were among the reflections shared by participants from various countries and regions during the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the global anti-fascist victory. The remarks were highlighted in a China Media Group (CMG) editorial.

The editorial raises the question: after 80 years, humanity’s historical mission has evolved. How will the world confront new missions, threats, and challenges?

“We sincerely hope that countries around the world, drawing wisdom and lessons from history, will nurture solidarity, advance modernization collectively, and create a better future for humankind,” said President Xi Jinping—a vision that has received widespread support in the international community.

Currently, China is actively promoting its own path of modernization with Chinese characteristics. However, it seeks not only its own advancement but also the realization of modernization in cooperation with developing countries and the broader world.

Drawing from history and the trends of the era, global modernization should take the form of: modernization of peace and development, modernization of mutual welfare and cooperation, and modernization of shared prosperity.

As the world’s second-largest economy, China has consistently called for an equal, orderly, and inclusive multipolar world, as well as inclusive economic globalization. In addition to pursuing high-quality development domestically, China is committed to promoting shared development with other countries.

From standing shoulder to shoulder against fascism 80 years ago to collectively advancing modernization today, the spirit of peace, equality, unity, and coordination continues to flow. “By drawing wisdom and lessons from history, nurturing solidarity, advancing global modernization together, and creating a better future for humankind”—this represents the aspiration of people everywhere and serves as a fitting tribute to the great victory achieved eight decades ago.
