Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described Monday’s meeting in Washington as a “truly significant step” toward ending the war. On social media, he wrote that discussions are underway regarding a special format to ensure Ukraine’s security.
The meeting focused on “security guarantees,” with the UK’s Chief of Defence participating as well. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a break in meetings with European leaders, discussing the possibility of a Putin–Zelensky meeting. Although Putin has not ruled out such a meeting, the timing and location remain unclear.
Amid the peace talks in Washington, Russia launched a new attack. On Monday night, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported on X that 270 drones were used in a large-scale assault on Ukraine.
