Media Representatives from Nine ASEAN Countries Gather in Sanya

On August 18, ahead of the launch of a special tariff regime at the Hainan Free Trade Port, China Media Group’s Sanya base hosted a joint interview program titled “Walking in China, Vibrant Hainan” along with the “ASEAN Partners” media seminar. The event was organized by the Asia-Africa Center and the Hainan Station of China Media Group.

At the event, Wang Bin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the Propaganda Department, stated that in recent years, trade cooperation between Hainan and ASEAN has deepened. Significant progress has been made in economic and trade collaboration, scientific and technological innovation, cultural exchanges, and tourism. Bilateral trade has grown from less than 30 billion yuan in 2021 to 57.91 billion yuan in 2024. ASEAN has remained Hainan’s largest trading partner for consecutive years. The Hainan Free Trade Port will formally launch its special tariff regime on December 18 this year, which is expected to further enhance economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN countries once implemented across the island.

Chang Hui, Deputy Director of the Asia-Africa Center of China Media Group, remarked that China and ASEAN countries are connected by mountains and rivers and share cultural ties. He expressed hope that the “Walking in China, Vibrant Hainan” media program would not only serve as a practical model for ASEAN-Partners media cooperation but also act as a joint exercise of the China-ASEAN community toward building a shared, prosperous society.

In a video address, Suhaimi Sulaiman, Director of the Malaysian Broadcasting Corporation, said that the program has created an important platform for enhancing mental connection, deepening mutual understanding, and promoting regional dialogue.

China Media Group has established various partnerships with over 100 ASEAN media outlets. “Walking in China” is a media event series launched by CGTN, inviting global mainstream media journalists to explore China’s beauty and promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries. At this event, 29 representatives from 16 mainstream media outlets across nine ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Malaysia, participated.
