“You’ll be thrown into jail-mark my words, that day is not far away,” thundered West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, launching a scathing attack on the central government. Accusing Delhi of “injustice” and “a politics of vengeance,” Banerjee declared that the situation has reached a boiling point.
Speaking at the annual Shahid Dibas (Martyrs’ Day) rally, Banerjee gave a rousing message to her supporters: “From this stage, we lay the foundation to uproot Delhi. Our fight will continue until the BJP is removed from power in the capital. Only then will this movement end.”
She also came down heavily on the Election Commission, criticizing recent developments regarding voter lists. “Forty lakh people have been removed from the electoral rolls in Bihar. Now they’re trying to do the same in Bengal. If they dare to, we will launch a statewide protest. The Election Commission’s offices will be gheraoed. We will not let this pass. If needed, we’ll take the agitation to Delhi.”
With the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections in view, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo urged party workers to prepare for a sweeping victory. “We must win more seats than before,” she said. “After that, our eyes will be on Delhi. BJP must be removed from the Centre.”
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call for “change” in Bengal during a rally in Durgapur, Mamata retorted sharply, “Bengal has already changed. There’s no need for further change here. What’s needed is change in Delhi. Today, we have laid the groundwork for that transformation.”
The Chief Minister also targeted the BJP over the issue of illegal immigration and accused the party of promoting religious divisiveness. “They are trying to save their politics by dividing people along religious lines—Hindus and Muslims,” she alleged. “But Bengal will not accept this kind of divisive politics. We live in unity, and no one can break that.”
