Bangladesh defeated Bhutan 3-0 in their fourth match of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Football Tournament. Trishna Rani scored two goals for the hosts in the match held at the Kings Arena on Thursday. The other goal came from Swapna Rani. Bangladesh is at the top of the table with 12 points after winning four consecutive matches.
Bangladesh was leading 1-0 in the first half of the match. Bhutan tried to equalize in the second half but failed. Bangladesh missed a goal even after getting a penalty. However, after scoring two more goals, there was no problem in winning the match.
Earlier, Bangladesh defeated Bhutan 4-1. That match was played on two grounds. Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead through Shanti Mardi’s goal in the first half at the Kings Arena. Bhutan quickly equalized in the second half that started three hours later. Then Shanti Mardi scored two more goals to complete her hat-trick. In the end, Bangladesh won 4-1.
Bangladesh will face Nepal on July 21. Even after defeating Bhutan today, if they lose that match, Bangladesh will still be in danger. Because Nepal has already won 3 out of 4 matches and has 9 points. If they win the remaining two matches, they will have 15.
Since Bangladesh has a match with Nepal, if the girls lose that match for some reason and win against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will have 15 points. If the points of the two teams are equal, according to the rules, the champion will be determined based on head-to-head considerations. However, if Bangladesh wins one of their remaining two matches and draws at least one of the other matches, the title will be won by the hosts without any calculation. Basically, the Bangladesh-Nepal match on July 21 is an unannounced final. The champion will be determined that day.
